Hi, this is my first post here, I have been reading for a few days and have seen many negative posts of Cymbalta and its side effects. I have been taking it for almost 2 months now (60mg) as well as Lamictal (200mg, have been taking for a year), and I'd like to give a positive report that I have had no side effects whatsoever, and while I'm not at peek performance, I haven't been for a long time, but I'm not anywhere near my lowest point.
I think that people aren't giving these medications time to work, I took Lexapro for a year, it took it almost 3 months to get me to my highest point on it, but stopped being beneficial to me a few months back.
I'm sticking with the Cymbalta for at least a few more months, and probably a couple of dose increases before writing it off completely as beneficial.

Hi CrazyCO,
Thank you for sharing your experience with Cymbalta. Do you have any type of physical pains and did Cymbalta help you with that?

I think what we're seeing now is a backlash. It's probably to be expected after the initial high expectations. At first it seemed as if most of the reports were overwhelmingly positive. Then the negative ones came and the side effect issues came front center. Everyone seemed to be dumping on Cymbalta and forgetting that there had been some very positive experiences reported here as well. I think that those who have had really good experiences tend not to continue to post about it while those experiencing problems and looking for more support, are apt to post more often. Yesterday and today I've just read 3 or 4 positive reviews again so I think things are starting to even out to a more realistic level. It's not going to be the drug for everyone, unfortunately, but hopefully time will show that it's another option that can help a significant amount of people now and in the future.

Cymbalta is doing fine by me in the 3rd week (1 week @30mg and then to 60mg). Any of the minor side effects I felt the first week (sleepiness, some flushing and temperature fluctuations) dissipated by the second week when I increased dosage. I feel I'm doing at least as well as I did on 150mg. Zoloft + 300mg. Wellbutrin.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this trend will continue. One side effect I was kinda hoping would materialize was decreased appetite. Then we might really have a miracle drug going on here!

> RayCongratulations, Ray. Glad to hear Cymbalta is working for you. I'm beginning my second week but I'm continuing at 30mg for the time being. I think the idea is to give the side effects a chance to fade, hopefully. The side effects I've experienced to date have been minor and transient, except for the anorgasmia, which kicked in the 3rd day. I'm wondering if you experienced this, and if it too has eased up with the increased dosage? Do you feel the lessening of your side effects was because you increased the dosage or happened in spite of increasing the dosage? Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Mark --
I'm not sure whether it was the dosage increase or just getting used to it that lessened the side effects. Curiously, another post on this board I read yesterday mentioned a phenomenon with Remeron that either too little or too much increases side effects, but the "just right" amount is.... well, just right! The Goldilocks theory of medications, perhaps? Interesting thought. As for anorgasmia, it has not been a problem for me (even on Zoloft), just the amount of work it took and my overall interest level. I'm cautious about saying this, but there even seems to be some improvement in this area.
Good luck,
Ray

>I'm glad you're brave enough to be willing to try higher doses, as the therapeutic dose range goes up to 120mg.
Glad you're noticing relief, and hope you continue to post any progress developments.
Any motivation/drive/energy helped with Cymbalta? I have ADD+Soc anx.+Depression, and even with 60mg Adderall/day I felt not tired but lethargic and unmotivated. I wake up because if I don't I'll fail my classes by not going. I just hope I can motivate myself to prepare for midterms before it's too late. It's tough, because all I want to do is work hard, and yet my ADD+Depression make it so that working is a miserable task for me.
I'm on Lexapro 20mg (recently uped from 10mg for a month) and notice very little, if anything, at all. Also on Klonopin for my soc. anx., which works great, and Adderall 30mg 3x/day, which I feel would work like it use to a couple of years ago if it weren't for my depression...
This is the end of the thread.
