This just seemed strange and I wonder if it has happened to others. I just started on Ambien and it has really helped me sleep, BUT if I sleep more than 8 hrs or go back to sleep after I wake up, I have horrible nightmares! I wake up very anxious. I get over it soon enough, but I was just baffled by this. Happen to anyone else?

Exact same thing. I take it, sleep great for about 6-7 hours (approx half life of Ambien) and any sleep after that has the horrible nightmares. Funny thing is that the first part of the night is not as intense and pretty much anxiety free. I'll ask the pdoc at next appointment. but I think that is the point of Ambien, to get a good night sleep, forget the dreams/nightmares and don't sleep in too long.
