Advice Please!! Side effects of meds or Anxiety?

Posted by BRC on September 30, 2004, at 9:35:34

Hi, I have been having some strange things happen to me while on SSRI's and SSNRI's. I have been diagnoesed with generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and OCD.

I have been on many different medication combonations for the last five years. I now take 60mg of Lexapro, 30mg of Remeron, and 4mg of klonopin. I have been on this combo for almost two years now.

But the strangest thing has developed since I have been on these medications. Most people complain about their memory being impaired on these types of medications. But mine is the total opposite. I have "uncontrollable" memmories and thoughts of memmories that go way, way back. Things, places, and people I had totally forgotten about. They are not all bad memmories but some are not always good.

The thing that scares me the most is I don't control this memory recall. It just happens all day long. It is very debilitating because it makes concentration and daily tasks very difficult.

I was wondering if anyone knew if the chemicals in these types of medications has any effect on the part of the brain that controls memory. Or is what I am experiencing just part of the anxiety disorders and OCD.

Just looking for some answers and relief.

THANKS,

BRC

I think that you might want to try adding an ADD drug such as Ritalin or Strattera. This might give you a calming effect with better focus.

only I'm on Effexor plus Doxepin for sleep and the recall thing is happening in my dreams. I've always had lots of dreams and they're quite vivid too. Since I've been on Effexor, my dreams have involved high school classmates, teachers, and other people and places I haven't thought of in years. It's almost as if I had blocked these memories (or my depression made me forget about them) and now they're all rushing back into my thoughts through my dreams. I also have OCD, so I don't know if that COULD have something to do with it. It's not really bothersome for me; I rather enjoy it. I sure hope you get some relief soon. I don't think I'd like those kind of intrusive thoughts during the day. Good luck!
