SSRI's and sleep problems - What worked for you ?!

Posted by zuzu80 on September 11, 2004, at 16:19:58

Hello. I started Escitalopram (Lexapro?) recently and I have difficulties in falling asleep. Has anyone experienced the same, and what worked for you to solve the problem?

Thanx
Christine

Hi, I have been taking Lexapro for about two years now and it does cause sleep problems for me.

My pdoc added the AD Remeron at night because it has a sedative effect and makes me sleep like a rock.

Talk to your doctor to find out what is safe for you.

I would not reccomend trying anything over the counter unless you check with your doctor either. Just try to be safe.

Hope this helps.

Hi Christine,
I am on Lex how for about eight months. The side effects were very bad at first, insomnia being one of them. They wore off after about four weeks and the lex seemed to be very effective and eventually I think helped me sleep well. I am however going through a bit of a bump right now after being symptom free for five months. Hang in there with it.

I am in the third week on Lexapro and as other SSRIs/SNRIs I was, it caused me insonia in the first week. I hope it goes away for you soon!

I've been on Lex for about 9 months now, and did experience insomnia early on. My pdoc gave me Seroquel to help with the sleep, but also to act as a mood-stabilizer. I take 25mg Seroquel about 2 hours before bed and it puts me out. Using Seroquel in this way seems to be quite common among the folks that hang out here.

I don't know if I could take the Lex without the Seroquel, it helps so much with my sleep.
