This is my first time posting on this site.
I just switched from paxil (two months...felt somnolent and exhausted) to effexor for 10 days(too intense, too jittery) to lexapro. I was on 10 mg of pax, then 37.5 mg of effexor, now 5 mg of lexapro for the last 4 days. My problem is that I am soooooooooooooooooo depressed and this wierd shaky anxiety is awful. I feel like the world is dark and sad and I cry hysterically and this nagging shakyness is like nothing I have ever felt. Ativan (0.5mg) seems to help, but I do not like taking it.
Previously, I was on Paxil for 3 years and stopped . The withdrawal symptoms were awful. So I switched to prozac for a month, then lex. I went off everything in January '04. I was fine until May, when I had a panic /anxiety/depression relapse....so I went back on the paxilin june...which simply did not work for the depression AT ALL this time....then the effexor(which I was scared of) now LEX...I know I am repeating myself and I hope I am making sense...does Lex work if you take it a second time in your life? Is this anxiety from going off the effexor(even though I was only on it for 10 days) or am I having side effects from the lexapro? I never had these side effects before! It's this nagging fear and utter grief and bouts of utter RAGE!!!!! Should I just take a small amount of the ativan everyday until this calms down? Will it calm down? I just want to stay on something that works. Lexapro was good last time. What the hell is happening? Please help me!!!jasmine

From one Jasmine to another!!
Yes, take the Ativan! It will help with the anxiety you are feeling, which is a common side effect of starting Lexapro (or other SSRI's). Just take the Ativan, as needed, and give the Lexapro a couple of weeks to settle in. If you are still feeling anxiety then, talk to your doctor. I've just re-started Celexa, Lexapro's cousin, after an almost 2 year break. I had worse side effects this time too, but after 16 days (and YES, I counted them) they have gone. I think your body can change in the way it responds to, or metabolizes a drug over time. I take Klonopin with it, since anxiety is my primary diagnosis, so don't be afraid of short term, low dose benzo use. It can be very helpful.
Best wishes

hey, Jasmine...
Thankyou so much for response. I feel utterly helpless not knowing what it is that is causing it...comming off the effexor or starting the lexapro. I took some ativan, though. Just 1/2 a mg. It is amazing how much it helps. I just hope the lexapro stops giving me this anxiety/shaky/angry feeling...Oh, even though I take the lex at 11AM, the bad symptoms don't start until around 8 or 9 PM! Why? Hope you are doing well and , again, thankyou.
