to combat the small amount of anxiety and the large amount of insomnia I have after taking Effexor for 3+ months. She also increased my Effexor dosage from 150 mg to 225 mg. Has anyone taken this combo with positive results? I will be taking 25 mg of the Doxepin at bedtime only. Has anyone found a higher dosage of Effexor to be more effective for OCD?
Thanks!

When I took Doxepin (long time ago), it really screwed up my perceptions. I couldn't tell by testing with my hand whether the bath water was hot or cold. I couldn't follow movies or conversations. I would be driving in my car and be at a red light and it would turn green and I would have forgotten I was in the car and not know what I was supposed to do.
I think this is a pretty atypical reaction but I continued on with the drug for several weeks (I was a newbie to a/ds at the time) and it never went away - so if it starts happening, let your doctor know right away.

p.s. I also take Effexor now.

Hi Colleen,
I took Effexor for quite a while mostly at 150 mg. but also was up to 225 mg. for a while. I also needed help sleeping but I don't think I took doxepin at the same time. I think I may have stopped the doxepin before I started on Effexor. I believe I took doxepin with SSRIs though. Doxepin didn't have the strange effect on me that it did on Marsha but it left me very groggy and hung over the next day and I was only taking 25 mg. I took this for several years though because it was a long time ago and there wasn't much better out there then. Eventually I switched to Maprotiline (related to the TCAs). It was less sedating but it usually allowed me to sleep with less of a hung over feeling the next day. It wasn't sedating enough for high-stress times though. In that case I could up the dose a little and that usually worked.-Kara

I've taken it for 3 nights now with great results - no "hangover effect" like Trazodone was giving me the next day. I have slept so well, it's amazing!
Thanks for your replies!
