To anyone who has taken Effexor or is currently taking it, how quickly did a tolerance develop?
Was there any point when it began to lose its effects because of tolerance

I have been on Effexor for about three years now and have found that we have to "adjust" (increase) my dose about every six months. I am maxed out at 300mg. (not that I would want to increase it anymore even if my pdoc suggested it). There are probably people who took higher doses but not this chick. Looking to get off it, but need to find an acceptable replacement. Already been on Prozac, Zoloft, Remeron and Depakote. It took about two years for Zoloft to quit working.

It hasn't completely stopped working, but I seem to be needing to increase it more and more often. The first year or so it was great. It was probably around the second year that I must have passed my effective threshold. Am not at 300 mg for past few months and already needing an increase but my dr (and I) don't want to go any higher that 300mg. I really can't say too many negative things about Effexor, except for when it's time to stop. It gave me back my zest for life for three years. Just be aware that it's not something that you can just stop taking anytime you want (unless you are one of the RARE lucky ones). There are very uncomfortable withdrawal side-effects.

Yeah, I know it's a really good anti-depressant, i've been on it in the past. I just hope it doesn't stop working after a while

as with everyting in life...everything effects everyone differently. I have other medical issues and my own baggage that I carry (more like trunk loads of baggage...LOL).
Your mileage may vary!
