Hi all... not sure if you all know about me so heres a short story..
took 37.5 mg of effexor 3 half years ago for the mildest of mild depression, 1 night was out with mates at a night club they were al ldoing e's so i thought i would take more effexor cus it gave me a buzz so i took about 4-5 tablets and smoked aloud of weed too and i had my first panick attack and felt very funny(anxiety).. obviousley i stopped taking any more effexor.. and basiclly suffered since...
tryed ssri's all raised my bp and hrt rate
reboxatine simualr to effexor caused my hrt rate to be fast and my i felt to manic over anxious i would say..
trazadone made me feel as if my hrt was gonna stop
dothiapen made my heart flutter and slow and i didnt like the feeling..
mirtazipan (remeron) was on for over a year till they changed from tablets to soltab i just cant get on with them, gave me nightmares etc..
went to see physc few weeks ago she offered effexor and then changed her mind ... she said to me that she can get hold of 5 mnths supply of the old type of remeron so i said ok ( well i didnt have a choice) then that was it bye bye till next year i suppose..
so anyways i cant do this alone been 3 weeks without being on any meds.. i am full of anxiety, panicking over my health, (nothing wrong) and now depressed and i am getting nasty discusting sick perverted dreams that are with me all the day grrrrrrrrrrrrr...anyways i was thinking about going back onto effexor at a low dose.... i would have to go to the doctors first ... what you guys reckon? is effexor any good for anxiety ? or is it just for depression?
i w as thinking also about taking inderal along with the effexor if i get abit to anxious...
any thoughts much appreciated..
thanks

Effexor didnt help me at all. I have panic disorder and took effexor along with xanax. I felt like i was not on any meds at all. I know it works for some....but another thing. Is if you have already taken it before, it is not going to work the same (my experiance) i took paxil years ago, started again and had a completly diff. reaction. Got off that, and started taking prozac. Im a going to see if it works.

Hi Donna, I tihnk that it's great that you're willing tro try effexor again, it's telling because I tihnk you're brave to take that step forward... perhaps try a low low dose of Effexor /w a beta blocker and a little valium... Another option is Cymbalta, thought i'm not sure when it's hitting you folks in the UK. I hope it works out for you!

First of all, I hope you've learnt your lesson about taking 4-5 doses of Effexor in order to get a "buzz" going. *Not* a good idea.
I'd have to say that I think trying Effexor again would probably be a good idea. Now, everyone's experience is different, but when I was on Effexor, it didn't work all that well on my depression, but it did help a lot with the anxiety that always goes along with it for me. In fact, on the Effexor alone, I had no anxiety, just the depression itself. Obviously, since the depression is what I was taking it for, that wasn't ideal -- but it was certainly an improvement for me.
Here's my advice to you on this matter: go to your doctor, ask about starting the Effexor again -- promising not to do anything silly like taking five times your normal dose for recreational purposes -- and give it a try. Give it an honest chance, for two months. If your doctor suggests raising it above 37.5mg, trust her and try it. Again, give it an honest try. Do not take it and look for problems -- focus on any possible benefits from it, and remember that there are always adjustment phase effects with any new med. Most of those go away, so for the first eight weeks concentrate on looking for any benefits and downplaying any potentially irritating effects that are likely to pass.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes for you.

Taking quadrupal your dose of Effexor is not a good idea. These AD's are not for getting high. Effexor helped me with alot with anxiety, and depression too. Starting of at 37.5 is good. Don't worry-it's harmless.
