I have just been prescribed lexapro for PMS and have been instructed to take 5 mg. for the 7 days before my period which is the time I seem to experience the most moodiness and irritability. Has anyone else received such a dosage schedule and what can I expect? I have been reading about how many of you don't feel the full effects of the medicine until having 3-4 weeks on it continually. It concerns me that I may experience more side effects only going one week per month to take the edge off of the PMS. Please advise!

Not sure about this, if I miss one dose I get bad headaches and feel awful next day (bitchy). Have been on Lex 16 mos., currently at 30mg. And it took 9 wks. before I could tell it was finally working.

I take 5mg of Lexipro before my period, it's helped me and didn't take that long to kick in. There's something with a small dosage that seems to work, the lexipro has calmed me down, not as anxious, irratable.

So you only take the 5mg the week before...and then you stop, right? You take it then the next month and so on like that? How long have you been doing that? Have you noticed any side effects like are reported here? I am a bit scared to start this...I must admit. I don't want to be a zombie or have to wean myself off of it like I am reading.
