Hi everyone,
I've been on effexor xr 75 mg for a few weeks and it has been the biggest miracle for me. It has taken away my depressive symptoms completely for the first time in 15 years since I've been dealing with depression. My libido has increased on 75 mg. My doctor recommended I raise the dose to 150 mg. Today was the first day I started that dose and experienced sexual dysfunction side effects. Does anybody know if that goes away when my body gets used to the new dose? I'm hoping it's an initial side effect that will go away soon. I was on prozac years ago and the sexual side effects were so extreme to the point that there was absolutely no feeling whatsoever, literally! I'm hoping that's not going to happen with Effexor. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you who are contributing to this site.

My experience was -- sex crazed on the stuff, wanted to spend half my life rolling up the sheets (maybe related to a new partner? Partly, not entirely) I had desire, is what I'm trying to say. I did have some trouble with anorgasmia, but not nearly as bad as on Paxil. And, for me at least, periactin helped a lot -- helped my partner, too, since instead of wanting to take a deep breath and either run around the block a few times or just start over, I was content to go to sleep.
By the way, I am a woman, in my mid through late thirties when I was on Effexor XR. The drug brought me back to my former, natural level of desire and functioning, except for that one little problem of anorgasmia. Periactin has been offered up as one option for sexual dysfunction, although it doesn't work for everyone -- and no afternoon quickies in the office, unless you can sleep the rest of the afternoon...
Best luck.

Maybe you should discuss with your doc the option of staying with 75 mg for the time being.

If the 75mg is working so well, why is your doctor increasing the dose? Seems as though staying at the lowest effective dose would make sense all the way around.
Best luck, whatever happens.
