Recalling Serzone more harm than good for many

Posted by Tony C. on May 27, 2004, at 7:21:42

I would like to tell you all, that I had a CRIPPLING, vegatative, suicidal tendency depression 7 years ago, positively DEVASTATING to me and my family. I tried TONS of Anti Depressants, NOTHING brought relief or helped pull me out of it EXCEPT the Serzone. Now after 7 years of doing GREAT with perfectly fine Liver tests so far, BMS pulls it off the Market, The Public Citizens group wants to pressure the Generic Companies now, and is suing the FDA to force a ban on the Drug. I get extremely upset when I read Dr. Wolfe of the Consumer Group saying it is not effective than any other drug, and that people like myself should switch. I mean CMON !!! it IS EFFECTIVE, for me and MANY others, this is abominable to think that these groups may succeed in ruining mine, or others stability and possibly life. NO MATTER WHAT THE DEAL, US LONG TERM USERS WHO ONLY RESPONDED TO THIS MEDICINE SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE THE OPTION FROM OUR DOCTOR, AND SOME COMPANY TO PROVIDE US THIS MEDICATION, AS IT WAS A LIFE SAVER. I am tired of the Consumer groups and lawyers not asking our Doctors or us people that actually take this medicine if we think it works. Withdrawal is NOT easy, ESPECIALLY after you have been on it religiously for 7 years, and being told to switch back to a market of drugs that did not help you in the first place, is not promising either. There is no need for this, us Serzone users who like this medication, at least need to petition someone to always make it available to us, we understand the liver risk, as does our Doctors. I mean Acetaminophen is WAY MORE Hepa Toxic than Serzone. Who is standing up for us Serzoners who know this was our ONLY Hope ? Serzone should be classified an Orphan Drug by the Government or something, (made available always to users, long term or that a Doctor decides this is patients only hope, cause depression is life threatining) because should the Consumer group succeed in getting it yanked, and I have a feeling they will or pressuring Generic companies to recall it. This is our Health People, we know this helps us. We need to stand up for what we know is right for US.

Hi Tony P.
It sounds to me like you have a good knowledge regarding psycho. medications, especially anti-depressants in wide-variety which impressed me tremendously.
As I wrote in my previous posts, I e-mailed both Mylan and FDA and got a good response from Mylan, ... but not FDA yet. However, I believe in FDA file, my name along with my eternal 'loyalty' to Serzone, ... now 'Nefadozone' was already recorded. Then, I do not expect to get from FDA, although Mylan called me personally explaining about the status of 'Nefadozone' issue. I understand that Mylan Lab. has been now in VERY difficult situation, not to mention telling the fate on Nefadozone.

In the meantime, I never stop taking Nefadozone without proper instruction from my pdoc. at my next appt. I am STILL a very loyal to Nefadozone which has been making me happy with little 'blues' once awhile that is NOT bothersome to my daily activities, including my 'social life.'

I just want this med., Nefadozone stays on the market VERY BADLY, ... but with those aggressive 'lawyers' along with 'Dr. W.,' it might be quite tough for Nefadozone to stay on the market.
Like you, ... I'm very concerned and worry about 'Nefadozone's fate/issue, however with my pdoc. who is nice to me for the past four years, ... hopefully he will find a good replacement for me in case this/discontinatuion would happen.

This is yet another example of some group of "concerned citizens" feeling useful by dictating to others what they can and cannot put in their own bodies. It's pathetic. Why do they not fight to ban Tasmar? Or ETHANOL? Look at the liver warning on those! Oh wait, ethanol has no liver warning. Geez, don't even get me started.

I had an excellent pdoc once who prescribed Wellbutrin and Serzone together frequently, claiming they balanced each other out well. Now all of those patients will be SoL as well. God bless America!

Now, how would you feel if your depression only responded to heroin ... ? Those people are called "junkies" and persecuted like Jews in Nazi Germany. Feel lucky that at least you haven't had to go there.

There is hope, though. Have you ever tried Nardil? I have a hard time believing that your depression remitted with Serzone and not an MAOI.

Thank you Chairman_MAO. I surely don't see cigarettes or alcohol being "recalled". I have been considered a "illicit druggy" my self for using a substance labeled as a date rape drug by the media and US government.

I'm sure there were a few times It's helped me from commiting suicide. Because of those "concerned citizens" It's too difficult, and costly to acquire. Instead of legitimate study the government just bans, bans, and bans. Keeping use "safe"?

Working on Only ' one-side/Negative?'

Hi:
Public Citizen Group, ... in my opinion is working 0NLY those who have/had negative effect, mostly 'Liver' issue. However, they SHOULD look at those who have been on this med., Serzone/Nefadozone for many years for many 'good' reason, ... with VERY POSITVE effect.

I started to wonder whether those 'powerful' and 'super-intelligent' folks have some or few(at least) 'relation' with 'financial-wise and aggressive lawyers' who putting ads. over Internet to 'sue' the company, BMS.
