My doc recently switched me from 50 mg of zoloft to 20 mg of prozac which I take in the am. Since I have started (1 week ago) I cannot sleep for the life of me. Usually, 2.5 mg of zyprexa knocks me out for the night but this hasn't been working. He increased to 5 mg at night and it is still not touching the insomnia. I end up taking 10 mg of ambien to get to sleep.
What has been your experience with prozac induced insomnia? Will it subside after a few weeks? If I lower to 10 mg, will this dosage still have a therapeutic effect? I am BP II with my moods shifting from "normal" to depression....never any mania although since starting prozac, have felt a little more energy than usual.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nicole

hey there. Well, I've been on and off prozac numerous times. When I was on it before, I had insomnia very badly and sad to say it never went away until I quit taking prozac. what did work, though, was trazadone for sleep. maybe try that. funny thing-i'm back on prozac now and have to take it at night or else i'll sleep all day long. weird how these meds affect you differently when stopping and starting. Good luck.
