Topamax is indeed the only mood stabilizer that seems frequently to cause weight loss. About a third of patients report a disruption of thought processes. It's nickname is "The California Drug" because it makes people happy, thin , and stupid. Sorry, Golden Staters.
Lamictal's side effect profile isn't so clearly established, aside from the infamous rash.

Ironically Lamictal makes me feel a lot more intelligent! My brain function is so much faster!
