Prozac for Luvox withdrawal

Posted by doxielover on March 24, 2004, at 18:14:44

I took Luvox for around 4 years, a low dose of about 50mg.

About 6 weeks ago I decided to get off of it and got a prescription for Prozac from my doc to help with the withdrawal. For about a week I took both meds. Then I stopped both altogether.

I was fine for about a week, then I started getting dizzy and lightheaded. It's not as bad as withdrawal from Luvox alone, because then I got very nauseous. But it's bad enough to be disruptive. So now I take one 20mg prozac every 4-5 days, sometimes up to a week.

I'm wondering where to go from here. I figure my options are:

1. Keep taking 20mg every few days, and see if I can increase the number of days between doses.

2. Get a prescription for a lower dosage and try taking that every few days for awhile.

3. Take the prozac regularly for 2-4 weeks to get it built up in my system, and then stop taking it and see if it leaves more slowly.

A long time ago I took prozac for a year or so and had no problems quitting. I'm thinking this is because of the Luvox.

Appreciate any suggestions!

I'd get the tablet version that you can break up & go for 15mg every 4 days, then 10, etc.

Cheers,
