I was on Paxil for a few months. It took 3.5 weeks to work. I was very tired for a while, but the black cloud lifted. If and when you stop taking this drug, do it very gradually over a period of several weeks, little less every few days. I started at 10 mgs. for about 5 days and then went to 20 mgs. This drug cut down my headaches by about 30% and helped my anxiety.

Joy

Magdalena, My husband has taken paxil for about 2 years now and it has helped so very much. He also takes cloneazepam with it. Right now he is experiencing lack of motivation. Could sleep for hours and hours. It is amazing how it works when you are not in an anxious type of situation. His dose is much higher than yours. He has lowered to about 40mg at this time. He has been tappering back and has had major withdrawals. Prozac helps with the withdrawals. Finished with the Prozac and now just paxil and cloneazepam. We are wondering though if a stimulant can be added for motivation. Caffeine makes him sleepy unless sugar is added. Then it works but makes you gain weight if you have to do that daily. Good Luck, Bluebird

Well, it took him awhile due to the side effects. He could feel the worrying going away and the constant anxiety going away. But due to the fact that he still had anxiety and panic in social situations Klonipin was added. It is a great combination but he lacks motivation. Motivation now seems to be his problem. The paxil has opened doors that he never imagined. He can actually do things along with taking Klonipin in those social situations. It does take a while for the full affect to take place. You may need to add another med to it for the anxiety situations. Good luck, Bluebird

Hi Magdalena,
I just stayed on a few months. I wanted to see how I would be off the medication.......and I was not too good, and then Paxil did not work well for me again when I tried it. I take Prozac now which is not as powerful for me, but has less side effects.

Joy

You said that your husband could sleep for hours. Have him ask his doc about Provigil. It can give energy with minimal or no side effects.

Thanks Bill for that suggestion. I will look into that. We are planning to start back on our exercise program which will be a big help. We have a bowflex and a very nice treadmill. But will go to the track when the weather is nice. If after the exercise kicks in that doesn't work, we will try a stimulant. Thanks everyone
