Get some one to drive you there. And don't talk in the car.

Hi antitrust,
I had agoraphobia for 2 years and the only thing that cured me of it was cognitive behavioral therapy. This isn't going to sound good, but I just had to go through extreme anxiety, and even panic, to get to my appointments...there just wasn't any way around it.BUT...the one thing I got started on was reading some books on how to control panic attacks, using the CBT techniques, visualization and relaxation, deep breathing, etc. You can even get tapes/cd's you can listen to over and over that help you to deal with panic and anxiety. You might do a search on Amazon.com. I was desperate to get over this problem and was very motivated, though, so that makes alot of difference in recovery.
Anyway, you WILL conquer this! Once you learn that you are in control of your thoughts and that thoughts are really all that panic is, you'll be amazed at how fast you will be able to step back out into the world again!
Oh well, didn't mean to lecture.....

>You sound like my mother :) she hasn't had a panic attack at home yet AKAIK. She started on Xanax PRN but was switched to Valium, she was supposed to take 5mg at night but has only ever taken 2&1/2mg. She was on that dose for 2 years without an increase but her doctor left the area. Her new doctor was benzophobic & took her off the evil stuff so she has spent the last couple of years in panic hell. She recently found a decent doc & is back on 2&1/2mg Of Valium + 20mg of Prozac, I haven't seen her this happy in years. :)
Cheers,
Panda.

Once,I was hearing a lecture and talking about social phobia/panick. They said when you feel like people are staring at you and talking about youm etc, just remember, they are worried about the same thing themselves and they could care less about you (which is true).
That helps me some with panic when all else fails.
