Ok, ok, I'll ask my question again...Anyone out there taking SSRI and Topamax? Tell me, tell me. Also tell the mg. you're taking and why you're taking SSRI with Topamax.

I didn't respond to your other post because I wasn't sure Effexor was a true SSRI, but I guess it's close enough? SSNRI? I take it w/200mgs Topamax.
I take the Effexor (300mg) for severe depression which a mood stabilizer alone doesn't seem to be able to handle...at least I haven't been able to find one yet that can.
I'm up to 200mg Topamax, and haven't gotten the greatest mood stabilization out of it. Still feeling a lot of depression and irritation/hypo stuff, but it has helped quell it down somewhat. Pdoc wants to add lithium, but I'm considering adding some alternative stuff instead, because I'm tired of all these heavy duty drug cocktails!

Which meds were you on first?? Effexor or Topamax? Or were you on both at the same time of dx?? How old are you and how long have you been on these meds? Have you had any weight gain or weight lost? I'm trying to get some info regarding SSRI and Topamax. Thanks for all the info you can provide....it's greatly appreciated.

Effexor first, 4 years ago, then Topamax, 4 months ago. Was originally dx as Major Depressive, but couple years ago changed to BPII, which I've been saying for years is more correct.

I'm 40 and I've been on meds nearly 20 years.

Both. Mostly Gain. I was always very thin until starting psychiatric medications...and have put on 60+pounds since then. Lately, since starting Topamax, I've lost 16lbs without effort, but it has stopped since my body has adjusted to the meds.

serzone 400mg, effexor 300mg, recently added topomax am up to 100mg (50mg morning and 50mg at night). Am trying to get off the serzone.
Am 43.
I lost weight with the serzone I think. Or maybe the effexor. About 10lb. Stablized. Been able to keep it off. Only been on Topomax for about 3weeks so can'tmake weight judgement yet on that.Still feel uneasy and tired.

On 300mg Effexor XR and 300mg Topamax. Been on Effexor for four years, started at 150mg, then up to 225mg, then to 300mg. Began on Topamx this May, titrated from 25mg, to 50mg, to 75mg, to 100mg, and on up to 300mg. Been at 300mg for about three months or so. (can't recall exactly)
Have been on psych meds (mostly antidepressants since 1984 [on and off]) continuously since about 1998. Am currently 46 years old.
Take them for depression and mood stabilization. Am not certain of official DX, though my DSMIV is 296.3 on the chart in the office (if that illumninates you)
Also take seroquel for sleep. 25mg-50mg.
