Hey --
After a few months on Depakote, I've been slowly having more migraines. I've heard that this happens to others.
My current dose is quite low, 500 mgs. My dr. suggested upping the dose, but I resisted because I always like to use as little medication as possible.
One concern I'm having is that I'm having some word-finding problems lately. I'm not sure if the problems are from the Depakote or the migraines, though I can say that I had them _before_ the migraines. Nonetheless, I worry that increasing the dose will increase the negative symptoms.
Has anyone had more negative symptoms from dose increases, or are they not really dose-related?
I'm making a log book of my migraines and think I will have to increase the dose soon if I start having more than 10 migrainous days a month again.

It is too bad about the migraines. The funny thing is depaote is used to treat migraines too. Good luck. terrics

terrics --
hey, yeah, i actually do take the depakote for migraine prevention -- though it does seem to have positive side-effects on my mood too, so who knows?
what i meant to say, and miswrote, was that i had the 'stupidity' problem in conjunction with more migraines before the _depakote_. the depakote worked great for a couple months, but has been wearing off -- and i'm feeling dumb again. but the question is, am i dumb in a different way than i was before? i am somewhat -- before it was more memory problems and now it's word-finding related problems. so now i'm wondering, if i increased the dose, would i maybe have more word-finding problems.??

Possibly you would have more word-finding problems. I am on 1000mgs and I find it hard to find the right word at times and lately have been finding it hard to remember last names of people I went to school with. It just seems like I have more "brain farts" on this amount of Dep.
But YMMV and you won't know how you are going to react to it until you try it.
Sorry your migraines have returned.
This is the end of the thread.
