Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence or otherwise that the Slow Release version is different/better than the regular? My Dr says it is mostly marketing, and that as long as the dose is the same there really isn't any difference. There is an even newer version, but it isn’t on my HMO's plan yet.

i don't know if this helps....but...when i took effexor regular i couldn't tolerate it (it was awful!!), but the SR was completely different. i did not have the same problem.
i would assume they work the same way, i am sure there is a difference. but i guess it is hard to say for sure. (has there always been a regular wellbutrin? i have never heard of it)

I don't notice any difference in how the two work. At first, I was pleased with the purple color of the SR 150s since I really like purple. Then, by chance, i smelled the pills and they smell awful, like sulfur! Has anyone else noticed this? What is in the SR that makes it smell that way? I didn't notice it with the regular.

------------Me too! I would be hit by a brief whiff of that smell whenever I'd open my medicine cabinet, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was until you mentioned it. After I changed to XL, the smell was gone. Bizzaro.
