How much sweating is involved? And for how long?

Posted by LMR on January 21, 2004, at 10:11:31

This is only my seond day on Effexor, so I haven't experienced any "good" things Or "side effects" yet, I assume it's way too early to know. I am on the 37.5 mg and being bumped up to 75 mg next week.

I am really concerned with the side effects. I work in a high profile career, interacting with business people and clients, and I am concerned about the sweating effect? Is it really excessive? And how long does it last?

Also, I am a newly wed. 6 months. In regards to the sexual dysfunction *blush* side effect, again, how long does that last? Is it as long as you are on the meds? And does anything help?

thanks for any input any of you have on my concerns.

Warm Regards

When i was on effexor 3 urs ago i remember the sweating, it lasted all the time i was on it for... for the sexual side affect i suggest maybe remeron to go along with it? or you could go and ask for some viagra? BUT atleast remeron wont keep u at it all day, it just blocks the recepter in your brain or something. so it doesnt cause sexual side affects, alot of ppl take this med along with other ssri's to help get rid of the side affects from the other ssri's..

LMR-

yes, the sweating is a problem for some, but it does diminish with time. I find that for Effexor, like the SSRIs, it takes about 4-8 weeks to know where you'll level off at. SO...
don't quit too early, you'll have to be a trooper and ride out any effects until then. Side effects are just usually part of the game in antidepressant land. You'll have to find out what adverse effects you can live with in balance with a good treatment response. That being said, most do find that side effects are minimal. But it's all about finding the optimal dosage window for you individually.

For myself, whom I consider to be fairly sensitive to meds, I found that after 6 weeks at my optimal dosage of 37.5mg, all sweating went away. And as for the sexual side effect, it's definitely present but not particularly bad. I am delayed in climaxing, but not erections. You'll find that if you frequently drink before sex, this problem is exacerbated. Lowered libido is a problem, but something I tend to not notice very often.

Bottom line, if your response to Effexor goes well, I can promise you that the side effect tradeoffs are not going to bother you as much. In the end, you'll realize how much better your mood is day to day, and look back and consider the sacrifice worth it.

I've been on it for a few months & I didn't get any sweating, chances are that you won't either. It did give me a minor sex problem, mainly inability to focus on sex long enough to orgasm. This has been reversed for me with the addition of Remeron.

Cheers,
