I have started Remeron last night and desipramine four days ago for ADHD-like syntoms and what usually follows (low self esteem, lack of concentration and so on).
I slept something like 12 hours but I feel fine. I'm having some hands' shacking and some trouble in getting a good erection and I attribute the first to remeron and the second to desipramine. My questions are: is there any Remeron user who didn't experience weight gain ? Is it true that he doesn't have sexual side effects ? Moreover, is there someone who had success in using Remeron to counteract sexual dysfunction dued to other meds ? Does the oversleeping pass with time ?
any comment or contribution is very welcome

>I take Remeron for sleep & I think it helps with the side effects of Efexor. I haven't gained weight on it, but I haven't been on it for that long either. Weight gain is probably due to Remeron causing hunger, but I don't suffer that side effect. The 12 hours of sleep probably cause some weight gain too. The 12 hour sleep goes away after awhile (for me 2 weeks), but for me it still gives a little drowsness after I take it. I now get the best sleep I have ever had in my life, previously I had hypersomnia. It would take me hours to go to sleep & when I finally did get to sleep It would last for 11 hours or more. Now I sleep for 8 & feel great in the morning. Side effects I have from Remeron so far have been a little heartburn from the tablet, a little dry mouth & a slight slowing of my bowels which is great for me as I have mild stomach cramps & life long diarrhoea. Also, I feel a little dumb after taking it at night, but I'm fine in the morning.
Cheers,
Panda.

Thanks for answering Sad Panda. It seems that Remeron isn't giving you big troubles, doesn't it ? I don't know if you're a male or a female, but is Remeron giving you sexual dysfunctions ? (I know it's supposed not to cause them, but a lot of things that happen with meds are not supposed to happen ;-) are you taking it for depression or what ? how much do you take per day ? do you think I make too many questions ? ;-)
bye !

Hi Francesco,
> I slept something like 12 hours but I feel fine. I'm having some hands' shacking and some trouble in getting a good erection and I attribute the first to remeron and the second to desipramine.I always needed a bit more sleep on Remeron, but it wasn't excessive. Maybe nine hours.
> My questions are: is there any Remeron user who didn't experience weight gain ?
I stopped the weight gain by exercising more than usual, and I greatly reduced my calorie intake from what it was before I started Remeron. I counted every calorie. So the weight gain never got out of hand. The stuff can alter your metabolism - I definitely gained weight without eating more. If you do find you are gaining, you can probably keep it to a minimum by being disciplined. Just keep an eye on it and try to compensate accordingly.
> Is it true that he doesn't have sexual side effects ?
I never noticed any.
> Does the oversleeping pass with time ?
Hmmmm...I don't know what to tell you about that. What dose are you on?
Good luck. I thought it was a good antidepressant.

Hello there :-)
I have been on 30mg rem for 8/9 mnths and it has been a gr8 med to be on for anxiety beleive it or not, many say it is rubbish for anxiety and is for depression, but for me it is gr8 for my anxiety and now pooping out on my depression, all others i had bad reactions with, i am a female so i couldnt say about the sexual dis wat eva..
I never suffered the sleepiness, although as soon as i take it i feel mellow, and relaxed, i look forward in taking it at night time cus i know i will be relaxed etc, as for sleep like i said rem dont make me sleepy, it would take a huge hammer to knock me out, BUT i do get a good night sleep when i go to bed, i do feel tired in the morning but i guess thats cus i go to bed at about 1-3 am and am up between 7-8 due to that nightmare of an alarm going off grrrr.
Weightgain well ermm i have gained in total since i been on it around 40-50 pounds no bull!! and i am overweight as it is, BUT that is up to YOU to control, only you can control the weightgain, just dont give in to temtations, i am infact starting to cut down on fatty foods and so far i feel a little better in myself, i look at rem as my "magical relaxer" like people do with xanax, valuim etc, it does relax and chill me out!!
BUT to be honest with you i have heared alot of people being on rem for a certain amount of time and it actually starts to poop out, which is what i think it is doing to me now, as i am kind of having more down days than up!!
Anyways stick with it, the side affects i am sure will dissapear soon for you, the sexual dis wat eva may have something to do with your other med, or just your illness !!Take care
Donna

>I am male & 36. At the moment I am on 225mg Efexor + 30mg of Remeron. I actually don't think much of Remeron's power as an AD by itself, but I think it is a great addon to Efexeor (& probably all the SSRI's) as I think it reverses alot of the side effects of Efexor + gives the best sleep I ever had. The current combination gives me no real sexual problems but Efexor by itself at only 75mg did, primarily an inability to orgasm because my mind just couldn't focus on the task. :)

I'm 38 years old and female. I take 45mg of Remeron. I have insomnia to begin with, and even though the med does not knock me out, I wake up fewer times during the night now.
I suffer from anxiety, so I do not know how Remeron would work for depression. But I do find that 45mg works nice for anxiety, along with another med.
As for sexual side effects.....I am happily separated from my hubby right now, so that's not an issue for me. *smile* Come to think of it, I haven't even had the urge to masturbate, so maybe the Remeron does have some sort of impact upon sexual function. Sorry...I really don't know.
Take care.
Sandy

... side effect of Remeron ? since I started Remeron it seems like I have nothing in my head (which is true for other respects ;-) I'm taking just 15 mg per night and it knocked me out ... I can't get up before ten or eleven hours of sleeping but I hope the oversleeping will finish when I'll switch to 30mg ... anyway, thanks everybody and keep posting ...

The long sleep periods went away after 2-3 weeks for me, I now awake after about 8 hours feeling pretty good! It makes a nice change after decades of having trouble getting to sleep/having trouble waking up/feeling like death every morning.
After taking my dose at night I can sense my IQ dropping & I start to get sleepy & then I got to bed. Another side effect is slight dry mouth & slight slowing of the bowels.
I month ago I was stuck at 150mg of Efexor & 15mg of Remeron, If I raised the Efexor I felt too nauseated & agitated or if I raised the Remeron it caused alot of iritabililty so I thought I was at a deadend. I then learned that Remeron blocks 5-HT3 which is supposed to reduce nausea so after Christmas & New Year was over with I upped the dose on both at the same time & seem to have no problem doing it whatsoever. I believe Remeron reverses alot of the side effects of Efexor and probably with the SSRI's too + gives good sleep. 225mg of Efexor seems to be slightly activating which is what I hoped for, actually started doing stuff without procrastinating for days. :)
Cheers,
Panda.
