"Milnacipran (approved for non-pain indications in 22 countries) is currently being developed by Cypress Bioscience, Inc. for the treatment of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and other chronic pain disorders, which have a number of overlapping clinical characteristics with depression. It is also known that chronic pain leads to depression and, as well, depression can precede chronic pain. Cypress has completed Phase II trials and announced on October 21st, 2003 the launch of Phase III trials to further evaluate milnacipran as a treatment for FMS. There is currently no FDA-approved product available for the treatment of FMS."

Milnacipran (Ixel, Toledomin) has been used in Europe for quite some time as an antidepressant. Like venlafaxine (Effexor) and duloxetine (Cymbalta), it is a SNRI - serotonin / norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. If approved for FMS, it might make for a welcome addition to the arsenal of antidepressant drugs.

Scott, if you get a chance, and no pressure, if you could email me at bullyforyou77 at yahoo, I'd appreciate it.

If you'd rather not, I perfectly understand.

Thanks,

Dinah
