I'm two weeks off Remeron (30mg for six years) and I'm going to the Allergist today to find out why I've had persistant hives since discontinuation (which I *think* is a reaction to another medication that the Remeron has been supressing). The sleeping is still difficult, but I'm finding it easier to fall back asleep after waking in the night.
The thing is: I don't think the hives are a withdrawal symptom, and I'm not sure whether the sleeping would be considered such. So it could clear up relatively fast compared to my problems, or it could persist longer...sorry I don't really have an answer for you.
I would give your body at least a month to figure out how it's going to react to the change once it's complete. One can't really know if something is a withdrawal symptom or simply just returning depression, or even stress effects from knowing that you're cutting off a major support for yourself.
I hope your symptoms start clearing up soon.

Its been a week tomorrow since I stopped the remeron(avanza here where i am!).The first four days i had the problem of not being able to sleep. Then on day 5 the weird things began, like itchiness beyond belief and it wont go away!!!!I also get strange sensations in my head, but they are no where near as bad as getting off effexor!!I also feel dizzy too still, hopefully not much longer???I cant wait to feel as normal as i can!!!
