Seroquel made me basically unable to fight sleep, and at a relatively low dose. I only take it when I absolutely cannot sleep due to my mind racing, etc. I found/find it to be very potent and was surprised at how I could not seem to keep my eyes open soon after ingesting it. Be careful! It is a stronger medicine for sleep than anything I have ever taken--including many benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Ativan) as well as Ambien, Vistaril, Trazodone, etc...
Seroquel gives me bad hangovers the next day; it makes me very sluggish the day after taking it.
Best of luck!> i HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SLEEP TROUBLE FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND WONDER WHAT EXP'S PEOPLE HAVE OUT THERE OF SEROQUIL

I agree that Seroquel caused me to be very hung-over the next day. I don't remember getting restful sleep--I just "passed out" from the drug's effect. If you do try Seroquel, I'd get a tablet splitter and only take half a 25mg to start with.
I suggest using something milder if possible, like Trazadone. If you can't sleep because you are anxious, a benzo like oxazapan or lorazapan might be helpful.
Some people get good results from nonprescription antihistamines, like Chlortabs or Benedryl.

I have been using Seroquel for the past week and have noticed that it seems to work okay.
I still wake up at least once during the night to use the bathroom. I once complained of this to my GP stating that my wife never had to get up during the night. He calmly pointed out that she didn't have a prostate gland...
My PDoc had me get a trial of 30 25mg tabs, telling me to take one to three as needed. I have been taking one, but I tried two last night and felt fairly loopy in quick order.
Frankly, of all the sleep meds I've tried this fall, I've had the best luck with Lorazepam (Ativan), but my PDoc doesn't want me to get hooked on it. Probably a good idea.
Trazodone gave me unbelievably nightmarish dreams.
I feel slightly groggy in the AM after taking Seroquel, not hung-over, just groggy. I did notice that if it's the weekend and I can sleep in just a little bit more, the groginess is not nearly as bad.

I took it for a few months in the hopes that it would kill visual hallucinations and boost the Effexor.
I have to agree with previous comments ... unless you're manic or in the midst of a psychotic episode ... I have trouble imagining how one could actually stay awake ... it trully knocks you out.
The 25 mg was really sedating but a higher dosage was needed for the boosting effect and it made me too sluggish in the morning. It helped a bit if I took it earlier.

Buspar and tricyclic antidepressants are good for causing less active sleep.
