I called my pDoc complaining of extreme fatigue and excessive hunger and out of control carb cravings. I have been on 100mg of Zoloft since June. My appetite was regulated great and then in Sept I started having a bad need for sugar all of the time. My doctor suggested light therapy...I don't feel very confident about this but was just wondering if it has helped anyone else. Thank you.

sure can't hurt, plus there is some scientific research behind it. The brain has been shown to alter its chemistry in response to certain frequencies of light. Give it a try.
An hour a day, in the morning, read a book infront of it, or put it on the TV.

i'd be anxious to hear how your treatments turn out, if you feel better right away or after a while etc.
i've thought about that myself, but they're expensive if you have to purchase one

I've been on light therapy for many years. I bought my light box from Apollo lighting, the important numbers are LUX-10,000 and distance from light about 20 inches. all you need is a half hour a day if you buy a model with these numbers. If I don't use my light box I'll start feeling fatigued by the second week of sept. also will crave carbs. I used to wait untill late nov. to start and it would take a couple of weeks to kick in, then I found out that you should start first week of sept. then it only takes a couple of days to kick in.

I bit the bullet and bought one a couple of weeks ago - thinking that it would probably do nothing for me.
Well, it's been really good so far, felt better after a couple of days and my mood is well improved. We'll see what the winter brings...
Oh yeah, to the previous poster, light therapy is meant to stop carb cravings if they are a symptom of seasonal affective disorder and not across the board. The best way to quit your junkfood addiction is to hust bin everything all at once and eat nothing but meat and green veg for a couple of weeks. It hurts, but it only takes about two or three weeks to get rid of all that rubbish. I seldom eat wheat or spuds now and feel much better, and have lost about forty pounds to get down to my ideal weight, the bulk came off in the first couple of months.
This is the end of the thread.
