Success on Effexor XR

Posted by moose100 on November 17, 2003, at 10:01:25

Hi all. I am new to this site and wanted to share my experience with Effexor XR. For most of my life I have suffered from overwhelming anxiety.I never talked about it with anyone and was usually able to divert my panic attacks to the wee hours of the morning/or when I was alone in the car where no one would notice. However, over the last few years, I became increasingly irritable and angry and it began to take its toll on me, my very understanding wife, my parents and my friends. Finally, an incident at work drove me over the edge(I'm an attorney) and I had an attack so traumatic that words cannot describe. My wife urged me to see my internist who prescribed Effexor(37.5mg.) That was 5 weeks ago and I am now taking 150mg. where I believe I will stay. The irritability, anger, nausea, and anxiety are gone. I noticed an improvement in two weeks. Side effects? I developed frequent cold sweats. From the sweat drying on my face I developed acne. Thankfully the acne is gone. The sweats remain. I have noticed some urinary retention but nothing painful or alarming. There have been some sexual side effects such as diminished desire-delayed O. Again, nothing that I can't get used to. Anyway, sorry to ramble on but Effexor seems to have done the trick in my case. My best to you all.

Ahhh, never on Effexor, but I'm glad it's working for ya. As a fellow attorney, I was just wondering if you've had difficulty functioning on the job.

I get myself all into fits thinking about how I make my living with my brain, and my brain's just not working too well right now....

Hi Susan; No difficulty on the job although I get a little sleepy from time to time. I have found that since taking the medication, my mind no longer races at warp speed and I can marshall my thoughts better(Certainly comes in handy in Court). Do you suffer from anxiety also?

<<No, I have/had chronic major depression with lack of concentration as a symptom. I'm on Wellbutrin now, and feel a lot better, but I'm still having concentration problems. I *think* that's attributable to the WB and not depression. Although WB is an activating drug for me and I *am* experiencing some anxiety-like stuff, which is very new to me. Hasn't annoyed me yet, but we'll see.

Court? Sheesh! There's just no way I could do that with the state I've been in recently... Way to go!

Susan
