Depakote: any diff. with Depakote ER?

Hi,
I take depakote 1000mg--usually the regular kind--but my shrink gave me extended release by mistake. Anyone know if ER makes a difference? I take all my meds at nite...don't want to be too sleepy during the day...But I don't know that much about ER formulation. Better? Worse? Any difference? Thanks for input.
