Hi! I started Remeron (mirtazapine) about 1 1/2 wks ago, now taking 45 mgs nightly, and started Topamax on Saturday with 25 mgs 2x day, while slowly weaning off of Lamictal.
About the time I started the Remeron I caught a nasty cold (started with a sore throat, progressed into congestion, cough) that is still hanging on. I was taking just ibuprofen at first, then started taking a decongestant and cough suppressant when the congestion and cough came on. Was attributing some of my 'loopiness' to the cold medicine, but didn't take anything last night or this morning and today I'm still slowed down - speech slurred, reaction time slowed, just not as quick, experiencing a little bit of 'depersonalization' as my therapist called it.
I didn't notice this initially on the Remeron, but I got the cold so soon after starting it, and then started the Topamax, and now I don't know what the problem is - the Remeron, the Topamax, or the virus. Thoughts???

In reply to feeling out of it - topamax or remeron to blame?, posted by Penny on September 24, 2003, at 14:27:02
Hi Penny,
We all have the nasty cold your talking about in my family. I think it would be safe to say it is the virus. This cold is nasty this year. I have had it going on two weeks now. Just felt like I was finally getting over it and I feel like I am getting it all over again today. I have been hacking away all day. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
This is the end of the thread.
