I have a bottle of Lexapro from the pharmacy---it simply says "Lexapro" on the bottle.....but I also have some samples that my doc gave me---it says "escitalopram oxalate" on the sample packet..are these samples generic Lexapro or the real thing? (I wouldn't think Lex has a generic yet since it's so new) Thanks!

Hi McPac:-) No....I don't believe Lexapro has a generic~it's still quite new! Prozac JUST came out with their generic didn't they?? Sometimes pharmacies just put the name~others put the generic-if there is one. What pharmacy do you go to?

Escitalopram is the chemical name for Lexapro. Lexapro is the brand name used in the United States and possibly some other countries.
