I just recently started Adderall 15 mg. 2x day for ADD and mild form of narcolepsy. I started on 8/28 (8 days ago) and have already lost 8 lbs. I have to force myself to eat, and when I do, it's minimual, at that. Will this effect eventually wear off and my appetite increase? It's not like I can't stand to lose the 20+ lbs., I gained over the last year, but I don't want my body to lack the nutrition it needs to function. Any advice?

I just switched yesterday from Dexedrine Spansules, 60mg/day, to DextroStat, 80mg/day (similar to Adderall; they're both amphetamines). I've always found that I have absolutely no appetite for about two weeks after an increase in dose, and I know what you mean about having to force yourself to eat (if you can even remember to eat at all, lol!). That effect will wear off very quickly -- most likely within the next week. It will more than likely return if you ever have to raise your dose, though. In the meantime, I'd suggest taking a few multivitamins every day, preferably iron-free since you'll probably want to take two or three a day. Taking a really good full-spectrum vitamin/mineral/amino acid/herb/etc. formula plus a B-complex (liquid form if possible) is a great habit to get into anyway.

Thanks, Ame. I have been taking Biometics liquid/powder vitamins for many months now...so I think I'm good in that dept. I take a calcium supplement at night and something called Biofuel (multi-vitamn) in the morning, along with Aloe Vera Plus as a cocktail added to small bottle of water.
I'm hoping this state of TOTAL non-huger will wear off before long, for I can see how these ADD drugs can cause an anorexic state in people. The plus side of the Adderall (for me) is the fact that I actually feel more focused at work and home - completing projects I start with added attention to detail - ACTUALLY do the housework when I say I need to and finish it, and it has also helped in aiding the tired "can sleep at my desk" feeling during the day.
Thanks again for your comments and support. I hope your new medicine works well for you.

It does eventually wear off. I get a rebound hunger from the short acting adderall.
Take a good vitamin (a few hours after your medication).
For my ADD I have found the best diet is meat, vegtables and low glycemic fruit...like blue berries. If you eat strawberries, weight at least 2 hours after you take your meds...the acid/vitamin C will lower the absorption of your adderall. :)

Not to be picky Ame Sans Vie, but dextrostat and dexedrine spanules are dextroamphetamine and adderall is a mix of Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. I am not exactly sure what the difference between dextroamphetamine and just amphetamine is.
I liked dextrostat, but it was really hard on my stomach. I also got a rebound hunger from it.
Here's a site that tells you about interactions with adderall and dexedrine:

Dextroamphetamine is the "right-hand" stereoisomer of racemic amphetamine; likewise, levoamphetamine is the "left-hand" stereoisomer of racemic amphetamine. Adderall is a combination of dextroamphetamine, levoamphetamine, and racemic amphetamine. Levoamphetamine tends to be more anxiety-provoking due to its increased effects on heart rate, blood pressure, etc. That's why I prefer dextroamphetamine alone -- I don't have any of the physical side effects, only positive mental effects.

Thanks, Ame Sans Vie I have noticed that since I have switched to dexedrine spansules, and short acting adderall that I haven't been as tense. The only problem with dexedrine spansules is that I don't feel it coming on, thus I don't move my butt off the couch. I take 2 15mg generic dexedrine to that I add 12.5 mg of adderall. This lasts from 7:30a.m. until about 3:30 p.m.
Today was the first day I tried that combo and I have accomplish more today than in the last week at work. :)

lol, I hear you -- amphetamines can be wonderful. Today was my first day taking immediate release dextroamphetamine (switched from the Spansules) and my dose was raised from 60mg to 80mg... though I intend to just take them on an as-needed basis, 20mg at a time. Today I got *so* much done it's unbelievable -- too bad that effect will wear off. I don't know about you, but I don't view extreme productivity and extra motivation to be "adverse effects", lol. :-)

I agree. It's particularly wonderful when I can be productive instead of hyper focusing on what ever pops into my little head. I can spend hours on the internet researching medication.
By the way, I posted something about being able to take dex spansules by opening them first. I asked the pharm. about it and she said it was ok. I was hoping it would kick in faster that way. As it is I take my medication about 6 a.m. and usually by 7:15 or so I can motivate myself out of bed.
What drives me nuts is when I lay in bed and hyper focus on yestedays events or what I need to do that day. It would be much better if I would get my happy ### butt up and get ready for work and plan it out in my planner when I get there.
Maybe someday when I grow up. I'm 48 do you think there is any hope :)
