Lexapro Help...PLEASE r/o

Posted by redscarlet on August 12, 2003, at 23:02:09

Will I gain weight on Lexapro ? What can I expect starting this med ? I'm Bi-Polar and I'm on a mood stabilizer and a antipsychotic and have had problems in the past with several antidepressants I was put on. Talked to my pdoc today and he does not want to put me on Wellbutrin so I have to go with the Lexapro. I'm very stressed about taking this med and could use insight/info on it that's straight forward.
Thank You

1. When starting a new med, I always like to read the prescribing information...it provides a lot of good information. For Lexapro, here is the info:

http://www.lexapro.com/pdfs/lexapro_pi.pdf

2. You will PROBABLY not gain weight on Lexapro. It was neutral in the clinical trials - meaning no difference between patients taking Lexapro and those taking placebo with respect to weight gain. With that said, there are always people who gain weight and those who lose weight on every AD, so...

Weight gain is not a common side effect with Lexapro. Lexapro can cause some mild jitteriness during the early stages (although Wellbutrin generally causes more jitteriness than Lexapro).

All in all the side effects are usually not too bad and generally diminish over time.

sorry to read that you're suffering such stress from your lexapro prescription ... ...
... ... thought i'd offer the link to the beginning of the pBab lex thread, which goes back to june of last year ...

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20020609/msgs/109458.html

if you were to read this whole baby, you'd know more about lexapro than anyone who hasn't had the pleasure ... ... real life, self-descibed, case studies from our lex users ... ...

and, of course, you can always post questions to the lex thread and a more lex-involved audience will be able to reply ...

the only med i have ever taken is lexapro and i have only been on it for 5 months ... ... i'm taking 10 mg a day ... ... ... it has been very good for me ... ...

... i haven't gained any weight
... start up induced some anxiety/panic SEs, a week of anorgasmia ...
... couple weeks, all SEs faded to nothing

... .. ... but we are all probably some kind of exceptions ... ...

anything else?
TAKE CARE !!!
