Has my Wellbutrin stopped working?

Posted by Tree on August 4, 2003, at 19:46:28

Hi All, I haven't been here in a while. Things were going pretty well, up until about ten days ago. I have been on Wellbutrin for about 10 weeks. I was taking 150SR, twice a day. I had so much energy, and was having a lot of trouble sleeping, so about a month ago, stopped taking the second dose. It took a really long time - 6 or 7 weeks, but I was feeling pretty good, and had found a combination of herbs that enabled me to sleep six hours straight. I was exercising and even having some fun. I felt good for a couple of weeks, then went away for 10 days, and felt great. I came back with a chest cold, and a bit of jet lag, and four days later, became unusually exhausted. I am still extremely tired, even in the morning. I am no longer feeling the Wellbutrin rush. I went to my doctor last week, and she told me to try 100mg, twice a day. I am doing this, except when I forget, like today, but I can't shake this sluggishness. Is it possible that W. is no longer working for me? Has anyone else had this experience? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tree

ADs can stop working for some people, but I don't think that is your problem here. That usually happens after long time on a med. Two things came to mind when I read your post...

1. I was on Wellbutrin 150mg bid also and had the same energizing effects when I first started it and for about 3-4 months thereafter. The enerzgizing effects did wear off but it still worked as an anti-depressant. This cold be what happened in your case.

2. Sounds like you had a regular schedule going, then you went off of it during your 10 days out of town. I know that when I get out of my routine, it usually takes me a while to get back in it. Could be you just need to give it some time.

I would only be concerned if you felt you were not getting the antidepressant effects from the Wellbutrin.

Hello Tree,

I've never felt a rush on Wellbutrin. Is it possible you were on too high a dosage and when the rush stopped, you *crashed*? Going out of town always exhausts me, anyways.

All I know about Wellbutrin is that you need to take it consistantly for it to be effective.

Good luck,
