Did anyone else hit their personal worst after taking Paxil or Lexapro? God I can not believe what the hell happened to my body and mind from that stupid pink pill... I got so fat..I am a "fat girl" now who really has social phobia. They do make you gain weight, I don't care what the doctor says. I used to have a great figure, now I hate looking in the mirror or shopping. And the worst part is you don't care. You don't care about sex. job. careers. mind. body or anything. and be prepared for a serious nightmare if you drink alcohol on Paxil. Two DUI's later and some serious bad scenes I am off those meds. Yes, the withdrawal is horrid. I feel like I have motion-sickness all the time and start to cry for a few seconds serveral times a day. "My brain feels like it is spinning rapidly in my skull". But, the clearer I become and lift out of this SSRI fog the more angry I am at myself for thinking the answer to my small personal hang-up was an evil pill.

I know how you feel. but A pill is used more as just a band-aid, something to help heal while you are going through hard times, but if you take the band-aid off before you fully heal, the scares are still there. There's no doubt about it they can make you put on weight, but usually that will happen in the first few weeks and then after the cravings have slowed down going on a good diet and exercising will help you get back to your weight. But that said, thinking a pill will solve everything is not a good idea, it's only really to help aid you get better. And my experience with Paxil wasn't that great either, it made me very mentally foggy and tired all the time, so did a lot of the others, and I just wanted to give up on the pills as well, but then I've had severe depression for a while now and my brain chemistry got to screwed up that I also had a lot of anxiety and social phobia stuff, and without the help of what I'm taking now, which is remeron with a small dose of celexa, I probably would have gotten worse. Remeron and celexa feel like their in a league of their own for me. No more night sweats, and no more foggyness. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about Remeron, or celexa, because they seem to have way less irratable side effects, but for the first few weeks remeron may make you wanna eat! but the appetite thing does go away after a few weeks and it's usually at the lower dose on remeron that brings it on. But after you've built up a therapeutic dose, exercise and diet will get you back to your normal weight.
And another thing you could try is something like St johns wort, or 5-htp, those you can get at your local health store and they are natural anti depressents that may help, if you don't want to try prescription meds again. Or maybe just talking and therapy will help.
Anton.

Paxil often times causes weight gain. But Lexapro does not generally have that side effect.
The funny thing is- I spoke with a psychiatrist 3 years a go and he said that he never heard that Paxil causes weight gain. I guess some of these docs only have a few patients on any given drug and they really don't know that much. The drug companies certainly will not emphasize these types of side effects in their literature that doctors read.
This is the end of the thread.
