Celexa and Apathy

Posted by Cecelia D. on July 21, 2003, at 19:31:18

Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced what I have. After 2 years on Celexa, 20mg a day....I can't remember who I was before. I've lost the ability to feel any emotion at all, my short-term memory is shot to hell, have no sexual feeling, and I feel like I'm drowning in a pool of apathy. I used to care about looking halfway decent for work, now I must force myself to wash my hair in the morning! I don't clean my apartment anymore.
All of my previous interests are gone. I buy a book and never read it, etc. Please, if anyone knows what I mean and has some solid advice, it's greatly appreciated.

I know exactly what you mean, and the only real advice I can provide is that just about anything that improves dopaminergic function is likely to help. If you choose to go the prescription route, your best options are Mirapex, Requip, Permax, or Eldepryl. Amphetamine stimulants like Adderall, Dexedrine, or Desoxyn may also help. Supplements that may help are NADH, L-Tyrosine, and L-Phenylalinine. Mirapex worked wonderfully for me in this regard, but it started to cause narcoleptic-like symptoms after a couple months of use. Now I take L-Tyrosine and L-Phenylalinine (in combination with P-5-P, a form of pyridoxine [vitamin B6]) and am achieving satisfactory results. Good luck!

Hi.

My doctor sometimes uses Provigil (modafinil) to combat SSRI-induced apathy.
