hi
i never took zoloft but prozac has caused my heart rate to increase especially any dosage above 20mgs. i think if you don't wanna do what your doctor says you shouldn't do it. my experience is my doctor doesnt really know what he is doing and a lot of them use trial and error. i think if zoloft works maybe a lower dosage would get rid of this heart rate problem. just some ideas
good luck

Hello Crazychick,
I was on Zoloft a long time ago and had the same thing happen to me. My heart was racing and I was jittery inside. I went off it right away.
I used to think that depression and anxiety and panic were all caused by low levels of serotonin but find that too much serotonin causes Gastro-intestinal disturbance, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, fever, tremor and other things and too little causes bulimia, panic, obsessive compulisive disorder and depression. So I think that we need to find out first if we have too much or too little before a doctor gives us a pill. There must be a test for this. Buspar is supposed to help you if you have too much which I believe would be opposite what zoloft would do. Hey at this point in life we are all guniea pigs and we have to also help them figure out what is best for us. We are all unique wired and what works well for one does not work well for another that is why we have to find out as much information as we can to help the doctor and ourselves. Best, Sabrina2

Hi crazychickuk
If ssris make you panicky, then start them in combination with something else like Buspar or Klonopin which will bring down the anxiety. When I tried to take Z alone, I had a pounding, fast heart rate and felt jittery. So the pdoc put me on combo therapy because I found so many positive effects from the Zoloft (aside from the unpleasant heart pound). If it is worth it to you to get the antidepressant effects from an ssri but you cannot tolerate them, then Buspar or a benzo as an augmentor is your best bet.
feel better,
jflange
