Transitioning to Lexapro

Posted by Derrick on May 29, 2003, at 11:40:20

Well, not transitioning precisely, because I've been off of Effexor for several months. It seemed to work pretty well @ the time, although I had the famous terrible w/drawal symptoms.

I have gotten emotionally really bad in the last few weeks/months & want to start on something again. One doctor suggested Lexapro, saying it was similar to Effexor, while another said I should stick w/what I "know works."

Has anyone out there gone from Effexor (XR) to Lexapro, or simply taken Lexapro & have anything to say about their experience on it?

Oh yeah, it might seem like a minor thing, but Lexapro samples are readily available to me now, whereas I will have to either wait for or pay for (@ full cost) the Effexor. Actually, I'm a grad student not currently working, so that's kind of a big factor @ the moment.

Thanks!

I have been a Lex for a few weeks and from all that I read it could take up to 9 weeks to see the effects. I'm having a good day today and I am willing to give it time to kick in full strength. I am taking 15 mg and I also take Xanax four times a day. With money being the issue I would go with the Lex. knowing it may be a number of weeks before you feel a diffrence. There is also a thread that started on 5-25 that has a lot of comments regarding Lex. It starts with Re.Difpensol 'lil' jimi. I hope this helps. Best of Luck Tim!

I have not started on anything yet, but really need to ASAP. In the mean time taking herbal remedy (St. John's) which I am mistrustful of... not that I'm totally keen on "proper" meds. Thanks to all for feedback! -D

I started at 5mg, went to 10mg around end of 4th week. Still at 10mg now, going into month 5.
