MAOI combination.

Another Parnate question...
It seems that Nardil is often too sedating for people and Parnate often too stimulating (so far the Parnate is for me). Similarly, Nardil seems to be highly serotonergic and GABAergic and Parnate seems to be highly catecholaminergic or whatever. So what if you combined the two? i know it sounds dangerous, but why would it have to be? It seems like you could roughly the same degree of MAO inhibition but with more balanced neurochemical effects. Say instead of taking 60 mg Nardil or 40mg Parnate, you took 30mg Nardil and 10 or 20mg Parnate-- that sounds PERfect. Could you? Or maybe even moderate dose Nardil with low dose selegeline (?). Can one do this sort of thing? Why isn't anyone researching this sort of thing?!
Ah, i'm sure no Dr. would do it probably, but it's a nice thought.

Interesting thought, I myself will pick stimulating over sedating :)

If I remember correctly, It's been written on the Parnate package insert and in a number of other websites that you absolutely can not combine the two.

Darn, that's right, isn't it? i bet you though that there's just little/no research or experience with combining the two and the thought of combining MAOIs, especially without good knowledge, just seems so incredibly dangerous. But i bet if they did research on it they would find that there can be a safe, effective level of
both drugs in combination. i really think so. But of course this research will never be done because there's no money in the older MAOIs anymore. Oh well.

Heh, good point, but it depends on a number of factors.
