Ambien fun

Posted by TJ22 on May 2, 2003, at 19:20:59

I have been taking ambien for only 2 weeks. I didn't realize that i was supposed to go to bed right after i take it, so i stayed up and was on my computer for awhile after i took it. after about 20 minutes, the computer screen started to swivel and the keyboard felt like it was on a slant, and i started seeing double vision. now to an 18 y/o man who just recently went cold turkey on smoking weed and drinking, this was quite the trip. so about a week later, i got the idea to take it to school the next day. so that night i didnt take it, and i was up till 2 am. i went to school, and about 2nd hour i popped one. i went off grounds to smoke a cig then as i was walking back it hit me. i had double vision and just felt like i was goin on a little trip. i was dissapointed when it only lasted about 20 minutes, but since then i've been taking them to school and taking them there just for the trip.
MY QUESTION IS is this a really bad thing to do? not taking ambien at night and taking it in the day? i dont drive my car or do anything that would endanger me or anyone else while i'm on it. if anyone is doin the same, please respond. or if you are a 40 y/o mother who thinks i am a bad news druggie, please respond. i want to hear everyones comments. THANK YOU

I'm a 47 year old mother. Some doctor decided that you were having enough trouble getting to sleep to give you a powerful sleeping pill. If you don't need it to go to sleep, then don't take it. But taking it during the day goes against the instructions that your doctor gave you. His instructions are there to help you use the medicine safely, and for its intended purpose. Ambien is not supposed to be recreational.

I wonder, if a doctor finds out that you are abusing a prescription, won't s/he refuse to write any more for you? If that isn't the case I think it should be.

There are better ways of getting your jollies. Try making an old man happy by visiting him at a nursing home. Pick up trash along the road.

These are the opinions of a 47 year old woman, who did smoke just a little pot when she was your age.

Hi TJ22,
I'm just wondering why, if you went off pot and alcohol, you would want to be doing other potentially harmful substances? I guess I'm asking what was your motivation was for stopping the other things in the first place.

Ambien can mess with your short term memory, I know that for sure. I'm not sure what long term effects it has, but I'm sure they're not the same as vitamin c. I have also read posts from people who felt they became addicted to it (for sleeping, that is). I can understand liking the good feeling it may give you, but it sounds as if you really know deep down that it's not the best idea to make this a habit.

The few times I have taken Ambien, it has felt like a recreational drug to me. I did not find it particularly good as a sleeping aid, as it was very distracting to have these funky visions when I was trying to sleep.

I don't know enough about it pharmacologically to say how bad it is to use as a recreational drug, though it's probably not a good idea to take it at school.

I once got a 7-day Ambien prescription that was gone in 2 days... so yeah, I've had some fun with it. Sonata also, can put you in the same weird state that ambien can - just not as well. But is it a good idea? Well, no, probably not. You may need these pills for sleeping, and you don't want to run out. Also... ambien can cause addiction, dependence and withdrawal.

Hi,

A couple of years ago, I was taking Ambien for sleep and yeah, it was quite a buzz if I took it more than a few minutes before bed. Then I read (on Babble) about a woman who was taking it nightly and went on vacation to the Bahamas. She since has NO recollection of the trip whatsoever. NONE. She just knows she went. I stopped immediately as I did not consider it to be a safe drug.
