Hey Everyone,
Yes, I am back (if any remembers me in the first place). It seems nardil has partially pooped out (about 50% as effective as before). Two question about poopout ...
1. With antidepressant poopout, don't the side effects poopout too? I mean if the med stops working, shouldn't both the therapeutic effect AND the side effects stop? (That hasn't happen to me so I am wonder if this is really bipolar II)
2. Is poopout a sign of bipolar II? (I have added lithium and felt worse, but lamictal I seemed to feel better)
Thanks,
Jumpy

Jumpy, I've never experienced antidepressant "poop-out". It either worked at a low dose (and continued to do so), didn't work at all, or it worked but I couldn't tolerate the side effects. IOW, I never took an antidepressant that gave me a super miraculous neato response that lasted for a limited time and then just dropped me flat. I've never taken MAOI's-so that wouldn't exempt me from that experience you speak of. It is possible that the AD response could be a mild hypomania being triggered by the AD, and then the "poopout" the result of mood cycling (downward). If the Lamictal helped, I would continue with what works. Ultimately, that is the solution-what works for you individually.

I am also reluctant and worried to try antidepressants again. Zoloft was really really great but it seemed to just quit. I was taking 150 mg. Some people tell me that at higher doses Zoloft can actually make your anxiety worse so that could have been it too.
DO antidepressants EVER work for long periods of time? Maybe the people that they are working for just dont mention it because its not a problem for them... Is there one that has the best rep for working for a long time?

A friend of mine has been on imipramine for 25 years now ... from age 40 to 65. Never once pooped out on her. She also has tapered off to try other meds, with no poop out upon return to the medication. She also drink 2 glasses of wine a night and no exercise.
It is just not fair ... some people break all the rules and still get better ... despite daily alcohol, no exercise and tapering off med ... oh and has a family history of bipolar disorder ... impramine has been strong for 25 years.
She has had to raise the dose thou ... started at 150mgs and now is up to 250mgs, but I think that is due to weight gain and lower serum levels.
