any success out there? Also does everyone take it at night because of the sedating effect?
Thanks,

I've been taking remeron as part of my cocktail for over a year. I don't think it's really helped much. However, your mileage will certainly vary. My psychiatrist has many patients on Remeron monotherapy who have responded very well.
I do take it at night, along with the rest of my cocktail. My problem is staying awake long enough after taking it to read a little before falling asleep ;)

> BrittBritt,
I think you've written about wanting to take opiates? Anyway, thanks for the info. So far the only thing that has helped me in the last few years has been opiates, after having years of success with nardil.

I took Remeron with Prozac for over a year. It never did anything for me except put me to sleep quickly, which I liked. As far as my depression goes, I actually felt a little better after I stopped Remeron, and then a lot better when I went to Zyprexa instead.
My sleep quality on Remeron didn't seem very good. I mean, I fell asleep fast, but the sleep was dream filled and active, not restful.
Other people though have had better luck with it. There's only one way to find out how it will work for you.

Hi Shelli;
I've been on Remeron since January 2002 with great success. Initially it was sedating, but that passed in a few weeks. Also, it did create some irritability, but that also passed within about 3 weeks. I didn't gain weight on it until I was on it 10 mos, but the weight gain was due to binge eating on my part over a personal crisis. The weight is coming off again. I think most people only take Rem at night because of it's sedating effect. When I first started taking it, it would knock me out within half an hour, now it takes about 2 1/2 - 3, I sleep well and wake refreshed and energized. Hope this helps.

Hi ShelliGood luck on this one.
Remember - sedation, weight gain, and depression can all lessen with increasing dosage. These things might not resolve until you exceed 45mg, whereupon Remeron can act like a totally different drug. I have no personal experience to share with you on this, though.

Just wanted to second what scott said. The initial sedation can really knock you out.If you haven't already started, you might want to start on a friday night - give yourself a couple days where you can sleep if the sedation hits you like it hit me. I increased to 45 right away - I think I read in the tips section that one of the doctors said he started patients at 45mg right away - and maybe even that that was the standard practice in his country? Don't remember exactly... take a look in the tips. Good luck.
michael
btw - currently taking 45mg - partial response. I augment w/dex.
