I'd be curious to read anyone's experience with this. i went through archived posts and it looks pretty grim. My doc is encouraging me to take remeron, but I'm wary. the weight gain looks like a sure thing. Any thoughts welcome.
Best,
Lia

I gained 30 pounds on it. I just recently quit it and am having an extremely hard time getting the weight off. I have heard from others that it does come off, but it takes quite awhile. The weight didn't happen over night for me, it crept up little by little.

Hi Lia;
I've been on Remeron for almost 14 mos now, I didn't gain any weight until I was on it 10 months then gained 12 lbs in 3 months, but I was "overeating" at that time due to some life stressors. Things calmed down again and I got a handle on my "binge" eating and started seeing a dietitian, I have lost 6 1/2 of the 12 lbs that I gained and am still losing. Hope this helps.

I gained 20 lbs. within the first 3 to 4 months. It has stayed at 20 lbs.; won't budge even though I don't overeat and have increased my physical activity. I think it has lowered my metabolism; but, like I said, I'm not continuing to gain weight. It has helped my depression SO MUCH that I can honestly say that I'm not depressed anymore. I have my life back!!!! That, to me, is worth the 20 lbs -- I don't care about it anymore.
Good luck to you.

Hi, I took Remeron 2 years ago during my first inpatient stay. I gained about 25lbs. in 2 months. My primary doc took me off of it as soon as we saw that. She said that it was kind of cruel for them to put me on it when I was already having problems with my weight, and it is well known that you almost for sure will gain weight on this. She said that they usually use it for people with depression that are underweight. So good luck with it.
