Is anyone now taking Gabitril or taken it in the past? That is the new one that my pdoc wants to try since I just had to stop taking Trileptal because sodium depletion from it was wearing me out. What side affects can I expect? The last thing I need is something that is going to sedate me or make me feel completely worn out all of the time. I already take Geodon, Seroquel and Wellbutrin. You would think that this is enough but I need another good mood stabalizer with antianxiety effects. Advise anyone??

My shrink prescribed Gabitril for me a while back, to help me sleep at night. It took a couple of hours for it to start working (which was longer than I expected), and yes, it has a sedating effect, one that lingers, too - usually staying with me through the next day (at least that's how it was for me). It's also recommended that you take it with food. Even after taking it after a meal, it still managed to hurt my stomach. It will also make you feel a little dizzy. I had no desire to continue with it. Even though it is "sedating", I didn't really feel it did a great deal for my anxiety & OCD. I stopped taking it and my doc gave me Klonopin instead, which I'm much happier with.

Thanks for your input. I saw my doctor today and he put me on Abilify instead. I have read some very interesting posts on here about Abilify. So I will wait and see how this works out for me.
