Hi. I value your first-hand experience of this med -- get scared reading the official warnings, etc.
Being treated for depression and anxiety. Paxil and Celexa didn't help me much.
Now have prescription for nortriptyline, but am a chicken about starting a new medication.
Thanks for any feedback!

Unlike SSRI's like Paxil and Celexa, it works mostly on norepinephrine, which means that it's more likely to work if the first two meds didn't, because it uses a different mechanism. It is something of a rough ride at first, it can make you drowsy, but that can be helpful if you have insomnia problems.

I thought impramine was the best tricyclic. Impramine I found to be less sedating than nortiptyline. Impramine works on both serotonin and noradrenaline whereas nortriptyline works mainly on noradrenaline.

I couldn't handle the sedation on nortriptyline. I did better on imipramine. But... my doc thought that was atypical. hence her starting me on nortriptyline first.
