I apologize for posting so much about this but I'm really trying to get a handle on what to expect and I am having a very rough time switching from risperdal to geodon- panic attacks, suicidal idaetions that were not there a week ago. I'm just wondering how long geodon takes to kick in. My pdoc says a week but I feel depressed and I did not feel depressed a week ago (before I started the geodon- I was on 60 mg of Celexa, 1.5 mg risperdal and 15 mg adderall and feeling fine). I'm wondering if the geodon is causing the anxiety or if it's the switch and my body is freaking out coming off the risperdal. I should also mention my life is extremely stressful right now- my mom was diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer and it's been very hard for me. But I seemed to be handling it relatively well until I decidede to make the switch. I feel like my emotions are very raw, sad and I cry so easily right now. I just feel bad....

Hi Babs
As I said before, I really don't understand much about how drugs work. However, I've found lots of links when I typed "geodon" on Google. Lots of those sites had very basic info on it. My favorite one was http://www.healthyplace.com/Communities/Thought_Disorders/schizo/medications/geodon.htm.
Maybe you've already checked it out...
I'm really sorry about your mom and I can imagine what you've been going through.

Geodon fully resolved my psychotic symptoms in about 4 months. I got a partial response much earlier than that, however. Do you have any psychotic symptoms? Geodon does not do much for me except treat my psychosis. If you don't have psychosis then you might be on the wrong medication.

Thanks Ricardo- I'm on it mainly to augment the celexa because I had an incomplete reaction to it- still very obsessive. The risperdal really helped with the obsessions but I gained 60 pounds so I wanted to switch. Just didn't realize how hard it would be, and maybe now wasn't the best time to do it but I am going to stick with it and see if it helps. I was just really scared by the way I was feeling. Today seems better though. Thanks again for the support.
