Ethics

Hi!

I curently take 10mgs Zyprexa and 40mgs Celexa.

A few months ago (last summer) my doc took me down from 10mgs Zyprexa to 5mgs. I was more than happy. Untill the withdraw set in, but I stuck with it for 3 months. The withdraw had gone away, so I asked doc to reduce again, 0mgs was on my mind, so that was it. In the next few days I started getting panic atacks and started getting grumpy and afraid to go to school, couldn't eat or sleep. So eventualy my parents convinced me to call the doc. doc told me to take a 2.5mgs, suddenly I could eat again. I still continued to feel bad though. When I went in to see doc again he asked what dose I needed, I was afraid to say, so he put me on 5mgs again. I inproved again but still didn't feel right, my school work had been failing. I told him it wasn't enough and got some free samples to take when I had a hard time sleeping or extra anxious. At first I tried to not take them but felt that it was not enough within a few days I had put myself back to the 10mgs I was at in the first place. Suddenly I was feeling great and catching up on all my school work. I went in to see doc again and pleaded to have him up my dose to the 10mgs again because I was helping my school work he said ok that was not so hard now was it? I forgot to mention that befor the first time he reduced me I was complaining about side-effects, so I wondered if he realy ment to have me reduce in the first place. But my real question here is how ethical am I being to take the higher dose? Should I tell him to reduce me back to 5mgs again and suffer in school? I realy don't know how to talk to him about all this, please give some advice.

Thanks all, for listening.

Sebastian

Whay can't you just tell your doc that 10 mgs works, and you would like to stay on that dose ?
Stay on what does works.

I guess I feel like I am abusing the drug or going against doc's orders.

Either 1) fess up or 2) Just tell him the best you felt was on 10 mgs. Either way I suspect
he will be OK with your dosage.

I don't think there is anything wrong with
saying "I felt bad, and tried 10 mgs"

You doc wants you to be OK and I am sure you are not the first to up their meds without approval.
It also seems you were on 10 mgs at one point with the Doc's approval, so don't sweat it !

My doc gives me a dosage range for some meds, so I can find what works for me. I am free to raise or lower the dose as needed. Ask your doc it this would be OK for you.

I wouldn't feel the slightest bit guilty about it. You've found a dose that works, it's within the range he prescribed initially, and if he was worried about it he would have checked his records and maybe questioned it when you asked to go back to 10 mg.

I think your conscience should be totally clear on this one.
