I am new to this discussion group. It's comforting to find others out there sharing the same experiences. It's especially nice to see that everyone seems so intelligent and well-spoken, which lends a lot of credibility to the information being shared. And I like the convenience of having the new posting alerts sent via email. It's the glue that keeps us together. Smart marketing!

it is so hard to believe that not to long ago i relied on the drugstore print out to inform me about meds.
education is the key.

I am also so happy to find this discussion group. I put a thank you up to everyone and Dr. Bob. It is comforting to know what I am experiencing has happened to others- and I am not crazy.
I just want to make a comment on marketing- I don't think marketing has anything to do with this site. There are no marketing windows that pop up while you are on the site....not all the info on meds is positive. I think Dr. Bob is doing this for research and enlightenment, which is quite admirable.

I've been coming to this board off and on for about 3.5 years. It has helped me a great deal, too, both in terms of med info and in terms of support.
I agree--there are so many well-spoken people, and lots of good info. But keep in mind, also, when using the board for information, that you should verify information when you can, realize that a lot of what is said here (as on other boards)is opinion, etc. etc. etc.
But with that caviat, this is an incredible resource, I agree.

To Dysfunk:
My marketing reference was regarding the mental health non-profits out there whose job it is, in part, to educate people about mental health through their communications vehicles (website, advertising, brochures, public speaking, etc.) Wouldn't it be terrific if a large visible mental health organization (or Roslyn Carter or Tipper Gore, both mental health advocates) launched a campaign around "We're the sane ones" or "It's a physical illness" or something in that same vein so that more people would talk more openly about mental issues, and get help. Maybe some non-profits have done this and I am just not aware of it. (I am an advertising and marketing professional and work for non-profits off and on; hence, my familiarity with the subject.)
Hope that explains the marketing comment.

Cynthia:
Yes. I agree it would be wonderful to not feel so "abnormal" and for depression/anxiety to be accepted more by society as an illness like diabetes. I think the drug companies new technique of advertising to the patient to ask their doctor about the medicine is a step in the right direction. Thanks for clarifying regarding marketing.Dysfunk
