Hi,
I was trying to explain my depression to someone recently. He did not get it at all!! So I asked him if he had ever had any consistent thoughts/feelings that he genuinely believed at the time but knew later weren't true. He said yes there have been times that he thought he was magical and all powerful (not drug induced!). This is a person who is constantly on the go and is not capable of sitting still. My instant reaction at the time was sounds a little like mania........but he's 50 and claims he has never has suffered from depression. So it got me thinking....Does anyone know of uni-polar mania or bipolar with far more mania than deprssion?? Doesn't seem to be anywhere in the literature. Every other form of mood disorder along the spectrum exists why not this one? Is the fact that its not reported because people are unlikely to go their doctor and say "hey I think I'm amazing can you help"?
hmm...... another thought maybe ADD or even GAD is kinda like a unipolar dysphoric mania considering that there is a massive overlap between GAD ADD and bipolarII and everything else that seem to have labels on these days...
and if unipolar hypomania exists where can I get some?? maybe I should stop thinking and get back to workoh well

Yes, there is such a thing as bipolar disorder with only hypo or manic episodes- although it is fairly rare. The shrinks I have seen that have been experts in the field of bipolar have all told me they have had 1 or 2 patients like this. Sounds pretty good (actually I have far more manic than depressive episodes, which is more common in BP1 than BP2), but most of the damage caused by this disorder is the result of mania (not the milder or hypomanic episodes). Hope this answered your question- judy

Yes! And those people don't end up going to docs. My friend in a large city started a theatre company from the ground up. It is now a major alternative/avant garde theatre and she pretty much did it single-handedly. She rarely sleeps (3-4 hrs a night) and is always on the go...it's as if she's just had 12 espressos. She gets agitated and often gets to a point where I think she feels that everyone is simply not moving fast enough for her...she gets very testy, short tempered and, well, bitchy. Then she kind of settles down again but is still running at a very high pitch.
I heard Donald Trump has this kind of BP...anyone??
