We shall never surrender :-)

I'm going to let you know about this combo;
The 60s psychedelic experience was nothing
compared to this drug roller coaster. Got
to get it right :-)

UPDATE on SERZONE » Squiggles

I told you I was going to let you know
about this new drug (post-SSRI); My friend
is taking it. It's working. By this I mean
that it does not cause agitation and anxiety--
the kind that you can find described in
a recent conference on SSRI involving some
grizzly deaths, and other "anecdotal evidence"
in the mutltitude of SSRI lawsuits.

It gives me great joy to see their stocks
plummet from these filthy drugs that have
caused so much agony, murder, and suicide.
Shame.

So, my friend, after 20 experiments on different
ADs, the best one being the dinasauric Imipramine,
seems to be finding something that does
not cause unbearable anxiety. Her report is that
the worst one was PROZAC followed by an MAOI.
All the SSRIs caused her mental suffering and anxiety.

This drug may harm the liver, but she is so
happy to acquire one miserable day of peace
in the past 20 years or so, that she says
Liver Free or Die :-)

<chuckle!> I know another person who used to say something along those lines, but that was back when her Mom got to decide what was for dinner.

> This drug may harm the liver

This is extremely unlikely to happen to your friend, especially if she has not had liver problems in the past. The incidence of severe liver damage from Serzone is extremely low...one out of hundreds of thousands of people have such problems. While this is not something to be summarily dismissed, I hate seeing Serzone get such a bad rap, and especially detest seeing the leeching, hypocritical ambluance-chasers "reaching out" to "help" people who have been wronged by that mean old money-hungry drug company.

I would certainly recommend regular liver testing while on Serzone, but this is really the prudent thing to do with any ongoing drug therapy. In my own two years on Serzone -- taken in tandem with several drugs that it has metabolic interactions with -- I didn't see even the slightest hint of abnormality in the standard liver tests. In fact, one enzyme that was a little elevated pre-Serzone normalized while I was taking it.

Rick -

Interesting info on the stats - what you are saying sounds very reasonable to me.

It is refreshing to see these rational posts - in a world where it often difficult to weed through all of the fog and self-serving or financially motivated propaganda.

Thanks, a nice post to sign off P/B with.

Thanks Rick,

I will pass on the information;
These lawsuits must carry some weight
according to how many there are per
drug, i should think.

Anyway, in this case the SSRIs really were
agitating, and i can imagine how a depressed
person entering an agiation state, may
just snap.

Imipramine too has agitation effects (in
a circadian fashion); Serzone is not like
that and clearly of a different class.

Blue skies... :-)

I take Serzone ans it is the best AD i have ever taken. I take it for my panic/anxiety attacks. I am very worried about the liver warning because the fact that I am a drinker. I drink every weekend.... like 15 beers total. And Serzone is the only medication that I can handle... i have no side effects at all :)

Glad to hear Serzone works for you, but could you maybe try to cut back some on the booze, say to a max of 10 beers a weekend if you're male, or 7 if you're female? Less would be even better. I'm not a doctor, as they say, but you should try to have a liver test every three months; or every six months at the bare minimum.

BTW, I don't know your age, but I was recently shocked to read that liver cirrhosis, which is usually associated with alcoholism, is exceeded only by heart disease and cancer in causing deaths among people aged 45-64. Once someone gets it, they're not likely to be around much longer.

I don't know if a long-term benzo could
not be considered as an option to take
along with Serzone; that would have been
my choice--but I am not a doctor. I'm not
against all benzos for all purposes. I
thought that the Klonopin might work if
you take it indefinitely, and thus have
less of a liver scare; but on the other hand
the statistics for getting liver disease
with S is really not that high (1 in 250,000 at
most);

Should I wory that I'm on two drugs that can potentially damage my liver? Anyone on Depakote as well as Serzone? I drink occasionally...maybe two weekend nights a month....
thanks
