I have been taking this mix for some time with success. I told my Pdoc and he said that it might not be wise.

In reply to SAM-e and SSRI combo....Are they safe??, posted by lawrence s. on October 11, 2002, at 0:15:40
Short answer
No. I experience Seritonin Syndrome
on the two, which was very scarry.
I would avoid the combo or aproach with
extreme caution.

I had great results with sam-e for quite some time, at a very low dose (2/300mg).
I added sertraline at 25mg, and although the initial results were good, I eventually switched to mania- I have since been unable to tolerate sam-e.The sertraline was the most likely culprit in tipping the balance, but essentially it was the combination that did it.
Many people, however, have used the SSRI/Sam-e combo successfully for sustained periods of time.If you have a predisposition for mania/mixed states though, this combo. can really blow your lid.
