manic and need advice

Posted by Kelty on October 11, 2002, at 15:50:39

I am going into a manic phase for one of the first times since my diagnosis. For me it consists of really high, almost intolerable anxiety, irritability, restlessness, sleeplessness and generally being "wired". I am on 75 mg of topomax, trying to work up to a higher dose but having problems with nausea etc so having to go slowly. I am in an underserviced area, having trouble getting in touch with the pdoc. My GP wanted to give me lithium, which I don't want, but grudgingly wrote me a script for risperidone at a low dose because my psyche counsellor had mentioned it. What do you think? Any chance it is going to help? Is there anything else I can do to slow down the manic phase while I wait for topomax to kick in?

Add 500mg of Depakote twice daily.
